High tech Zürich
Today we all woke-up in a new city, Zürich. Our stay here will be short so the day is filled. We start the morning with a visit to CSEM, which is a Swiss research centre. They have a broad range of projects that they are working on. They gave us a short presentation on some of those projects which were all highly technological and focussing on improving the lifestyle of the Swiss people.
After the short but insightful visit their was some free time. Some people used this time to refresh their small supply of clothes. Some other people needed to refresh themselves and went towards the swimming pool. The remainder went to the Landesmuseum Zürich. From the outside the building looked beautiful. From the inside this was not immediately visible but the expositions were very interesting and insightful. We learned a lot from the preshistoric time of the Alps. The museum used a lot of technology like interactive screens and augmented reality which made our engineering hearts beat a little faster.
After a short lunch it was time for the second company visit of the day. We went to ETH, which is the technical university of Zürich. We were invited to their robotics lab where they showed us a nice demonstration of the robots they are working on. After the demonstration they gave a presentation and a small tour. During all there there were various opportunities for asking questions. After the visit there was some more free time and a group of people enjoyed a refreshing drink at the waterside.
Now we are enjoying a nice meal in a typical Swiss restaurant. After that there is an opportunity to see what the nightlife of Zürich has to offer.
Kind regards, Bas van Laerhoven
